Omaha’s proximity to Offutt A.F.B. makes it a wonderful city for military families to setting down and settle into civilian life. As US Air Force personnel return home from conflicts abroad, they must make a lot of decisions on where to move their families for the long term. The Omaha area should definitely be considered.
The people of Omaha do a great job of mixing city life with the casual rural lifestyle. There’s a down home feeling among the people of Omaha, probably due to its roots in the farm culture. The corn fields are not so distant that the people have forgotten their beginnings (or their manners).
With the countryside close at hand, one is never too distant from the joys of spending time in the great outdoors. It is quite a short drive (in fact, a short walk, depending on where you choose to live) to the powerful Missouri River, where you’ll find three seasons (at least) worth of fun. Playing on the river is a popular pastime, especially for those who like to cast the line in for some channel catfish every so often. But water sports like personal watercraft are also a big hit on the river, and you’ll find water skiers out all summer long.
If you’re a military family, you likely already know that Bellevue is the home of the base. But there are other tracts around town that are close to Offutt, and they are good choices for school districts as well as homes.
If you’re looking for Omaha real estate, it’s a good idea to check out Bellevue homes as well, of course. But also take a look at Papillion-La Vista, a community on the southeast side of Omaha. You can find a list of some of the more popular Omaha neighborhoods here.
